STILL IMPROVING... At Gymnastics North we are always looking for ways to improve our facility or coaching methods. In recent years we have added: * Monkey Maze & Rock-Climbing Wall. * Specialized Preschool gymnastics apparatus. * Competitive U.S.A.G. Girls and Teamgym squads. * Kindergym (age 3-5) theme months to reinforce pre-kindergarten concepts. * Regular Performance Shows featuring all enrolled students. Gene's continuing training: * Safety-Certified. * Certified Skill Evaluator for Levels I-IV. * Professional U.S.A. Gymnastics member. * PDP Level II certified. * Athlete Wellness training. * Attendee at state and national U.S.A.G. congresses and workshops. * Certified N.P.R.A. Playground Safety Inspector * Debra is also KAT (Kinder Accreditation Training) certified for developing high quality preschool curriculum, and also attends annual U.S.A.G. Congresses. |

| Gene Johnson began his gymnastics career at Westminster (CA) High School and Golden West Jr. College, where he competed at state level meets. He moved on to Washington State University on Gymnastics scholarship, competing in NCAA and AAU competitions, and received 3rd in the nation on Rings in 1974. Gene graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 1978. His first job out of college was Head Boy's Coach and primary instructor at a huge gymnastics club in Palo Alto, where he worked for two years. The Johnsons moved back to Pullman, Washington to allow Debra to complete her M.A. degree in Archeology, and Gene decided to put his work, education, and gymnastics experience to good use. In January 1981 the doors opened on Gymnastics North. They began with a small gym on the 3rd floor of an old converted high school. It was hot in summer and dependent on a cantankerous furnace in winter. And the students still came! Gene taught hundreds of students the joys of gymnastics in Pullman from 1981 to 1987. |
The Gymnastics North logo has been a symbol of quality since 1981! The Move to Lompoc By 1987 the Johnsons were weary of long, cold winters and the severely seasonal business of a college town. They looked around for a location with a warmer climate, a solid base of school-age children, beautiful scenery and no freeway - and found Lompoc! They moved all their gym equipment and household goods south in two full-sized U-Haul vans. Their current building is the third (and best) location used in Lompoc. Gymnastics North is proud to be one of the only family-run (not government-subsidized) gymnastics clubs along the California coast between Ventura and San Luis Obispo. Our Philosophy At Gymnastics North, every child is a winner! We believe in developing all our students to their full potential in coordination, strength, balance, and flexibility - in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment! From preschoolers to Team, our students are given goals to meet and the training to achieve them, building a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. |
